Gurp City

It's like Vegas fool. San Francisco and the Bay Area rappers, producers and DJs all get together for one good cause, to get drunk as fuck and make good music. TopR show footage from Mighty SF

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Topper took the stage after taking sake shots and drinking a few wine spritzers with Boac and the infamous DJ Quest at Mighty SF for the Versus magazine release party. As usual, the crowd rushed to the front and eventually a B-boy circle was created for everyone to act a fool. Best dancer by far was Pastime. Quest killed it on his solo scratches, prompting DJ Platurn to get on stage and get the crowd to give an encore of props and applause. Check this footage from “Topper’s in Town.”

I know a few fools were snapping pictures at the show. Check the comments for links to their flicks.

What the heads have been waiting for: Luke Sick Finally Fries On Acid Again!

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

luke sick the retard gurp city

He heralded the use of the hallucigen on Retired’s “Burn Drunk Hours” but then back-peddled in his support of the drug on Brougham’s “Don’t Speak English” (“You don’t really trip, you just lose your shit”). Well, kids it looks like he’s back off that black pyramid gel again, or was it the liquid micro-dot. Maybe this track can serve as a good reason why it’s good that he’s just mostly off that purp these days. Can you see Gizzer Butler and Ozzy nodding in the background egging him on as you listen? Like all of Luke’s music it helps to get on gurp before you listen to enhance the sensation. Fucking loadies! Doug Surreal is relocating the Motel Crew to Reno, NV to undergo intense narcotic training and rap warping… the Motel thing is growing like that funky green stuff on the back of your neck from that flea market chain you be wearin’!

Leak of the Week: Million Bucks (Conceit & Boac)
As well as Strangeface in S.F. Weekly Best Of San Francisco

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

strange face gurp city

Being recognized for your drunken antics has proved to be counter productive for some, however not for the homies in Strange Face. The SF Weekly has just given respect where its due by naming the rowdy bunch of kids The Best Drunken Rap Group in San Francisco.

Best Drunken Hip-Hop Group

Strange Face

Bay Area hip-hop artists are either pill-poppin’ purveyors of the hyphy high life, or knit-cap wearing pseudo-intellectuals who spout the obligatory “Fuck Bush!” in order to rouse the slightest bit of crowd response. San Francisco’s Strange Face collective is neither. Instead, they spit raw raps, guzzle jugs of Carlo Rossi, and write odes to their muse: booze. Their singlemindedness is best illustrated by albums such as Conceit’s “Wasted Talent” and TopR’s “Cheap Laughs for Dead Comedians.” Strange Face earns respect from local hip-hop heads for “gettin’ gurped” and drinking 40s outside of clubs with fans and still rocking a mike better than most do sober. The network of emcees, DJs, producers and artists includes founder Conceit, Wordsmith, Rush, Optik, BOAC, and turntablists 4OneFunk. You can find them any given weekend performing at bars and clubs, or buying cheap booze at your local liquor store.

Much props to the boys, good to know all that hard work has finally paid off. So now in order to celebrate this monumental occasion Boac has sent me an exclusive rough mix from the upcoming Million Bucks collabo between him and Conceit aka the “Deonte Bradley” of rap (yeah Conceit I went there). Peep out “Kick Snare” up top and post your thoughts in the comments. Don’t hesitate to send it out to all your friends, enemies and the down low hoes your girl doesn’t know about on Myspace. And for those of you who like to post Myspace bulletins get some extra code here.
