Gurp City

It's like Vegas fool. San Francisco and the Bay Area rappers, producers and DJs all get together for one good cause, to get drunk as fuck and make good music. Gurp City consists of hip hop pioneers such as DJ Quest and DJ Eddie Def to underground legends like Bored Stiff and Sacred Hoop to freestyle champions TopR and Conceit...pretty much every alcoholic rapper in the Bay Area of California. The Gurp Fam keeps growing and innovating rap music with artists like Trunk Drank, Z-Man, Fist Fam, Grand Invincible, Fay Dog, G-Pek, Eddie K, DJ Marz, Bullet Proof Space Travelers, Bullet Proof Scratch Hampsters, DJ Cue, Brandon B, Luke Sick, Iron Fist, Thuggy Fresh, 6 Feet Deep, DJ Mathew Africa, 4oneFunk, DJ Teeko, DJ Max Kane, DJ Mista-B, DJ B. Cause, DNAE Beats, Boac, The Makai, Third Sight, The AlterBoys, MC Oroville, Illsquad, Live Human, Lords Crew, Alex Pardee, Zero Friends, Big Sammy, DJ Raw B and Fatees.

Happy Birthday to Big Money! (Mark)

Posted by Thuggy

A big happy birthday to one of the true homies of the Gurp City Family and part of the inspiration for the most infamous blog post on the this site. Do Money Mark a favor and go check out his blog Game Viking, he’ll put you up on more game about games than anyone else in the game (even though he just admitted to me he’s been to busy to update in hellsa long.) And if you’re in the city this evening we’ll be grabbing beers somewhere along the Haight. Holla -thuggy

MC Oroville is Always a Day Late and A Dollar Short…

Posted by Thuggy

If you dont smoke yourself to death on 4/20, you should go check out MC Oroville cause a little ruckus over at the elbo room in SF. The man from the land of mountains that are flat doesn’t play in the big city too often so be sure and let all your homies know. AND, if you still don’t have an MC Oroville “Do soMETHing” album, holla atcha boy, I think i still got a box of em somewhere. Some of the cases might be a lil dirty on the front tho…

see you there -thuggy

Luke Sick Goes Columbine…

Posted by Dap1

The opinions expressed by Luke Sick in this report back from last night Topr show at 111 Minna pretty much reflects the ideas and views of the Gurp City family. We stand behind his blight opinions and drunk shit talk even though he thinks his shit don’t stink.

For the record, the sound at 111 Minna for rap performances blows dick. Good thang that us Gurp heads like it nice and janky. Like I told Dick Nasty after last night’s show, “Shit, I’d listen to y’all rock if it was comin’ thru clock radio speakers submerged in the rhea that I got after eating a stale Popeye’s biscuit at Boac’s crib.” Frankenstein’s Topr ripped the loyal, coked up audience like a sadistic sheep-herder, and Fatees and Thuggy got reprimanded by the bouncer for moshing. Fatees was under the wing of his father and mentor, Booger Keys. He had the dope line for the honeys he was poppin’ it to: “Yo, you can come home and stay wif me girl, I’m stayin’ at Thuggy’s.” Needless to say, the bitches were jockin’. Fattees, here’s some double-OG advice for the next time you go out on a trim hunt: buy your own B-12 and emancipate yourself from the confines of Daddy-Yay-Care. Desperation is a stinky cologne, but smells less like piss if worn alone. As the night wore on and Topr launched into “Grindhouse,” the double-fisted PBR cans began to wrinkle under the pressure of the tense predators’ sweaty hands, as we all slowly realized that it was Thursday fuckin’ night, and no one was gonna after-party-till-the-sky-turned-blue, because all these high-rent paying lunatics had to go to work for the man the next day just to be allowed to breathe is this corner of this expensive shithole we call the Area. Burn it all the fuck down. Start with the speakers and Radio Shack soundboard at Minna (A Vestax Pro is bigger than that piece of shit), then torch the whole fucking club and all the fuckin art, then bowl a fireball down the Embarcadero and make the whole 7×7 mile radius a pile of ash. Pour oil in the Bay and let that fucker burn and boil too, take a flamethrower to the whole fucking Peninsula and detonate the East Bay while were at it—the demise lullabyed to the tune of Topr’s “Why?” And only one king shall emerge from the remains, to lead the disgruntled survivors toward rebuilding the kingdom just to hate it all over again. We’re of course the only one’s who’d survive, cuz that’s what we’ve been doing the whole fucking time anyway. All hail the Gurp!

Thanks for another inspiring show Topr! It’s not like your performances make me feel good necessarily, but that isn’t what’s important. It’s more like your music brings together a bunch of people like me (us) who can’t fucking stand it anymore, and when we’re all together I feel like we could just like… I dunno, like all band together and… just like kill every-fuckin’-body, ya know what I mean? That’s what keeps me coming back.

A Year Ago This Past Weekend…

Posted by Thuggy

Last year around this time an essential part Gurp City passed away. Brian (Evil B) Leventon was our bartender and close friend. While most other douchebags were serving party punch and Jager shots to the Greek assholes, Evil B treated us likes we were kings. High powered drinks and pitchers of beer were always waiting for us as soon as we walked in the door. Undeniably one of the coolest cats ever to stand behind a bar in Chico, and an all around good friend who would sacrafice anything to help a friend in need. It’s a shame you had to pass homie, I still think about you every time I watch an A’s game or stare at a glass of whiskey (which has been alot lately.) Gurp City will never be the same without you B. The Gurp City family has expanded soo much over the years but only the true OGs can claim All-Star status if they happened to be one of the fortunate few to have been served by you.
Brian, you are truly missed any will never be forgotten.

T.G.I.F.F. (Thank Gurp It’s Fuckin’ Friday)

Posted by Max

T.G.I. Motherfucking F. y’all. If you hate your day job and you know it, clap your hands, then head to the nearest motherfucking bar and get your goddamn GURP on…

Set it off on Friday night with a dose of the rock…and I ain’t talkin’ ’bout suckin’ that glass dick.

You can get your classic pop rock fix from The Kinks’ Ray Davies performing solo at the Warfield in SF; check out East Bay pretty-boy buzz band Audrye Sessions, just off tour and performing a homecoming show at the Uptown Lounge in Oakland; or shave your head down to a mohawk and cause a motherfucking ruckus at Thee Parkside in SF, with Half Moon Bay’s own Nightstick Justice, Desolation and a bunch more punk bands.

Myself, I’m gonna hit Eli’s Mile High Club in Oakland for Facepilot from Portland, OR, featuring the old school Chico homie Jeff Walker a.k.a. Jeff Rocker on drums. It’ll be a blunted, beer-soaked, battery-chuckin’ good time.

If you’d rather listen to fresh raps and get down on some wine-and-cheese artsy-fartsy type shit, you can catch the ace homie Z-Man performing at 111 Minna in the City tonight as part of the Juxtaposed-sponsored Suite Jesus art show. Z-Mainey will holding it down with Goodword, Dirtbag Dan and D-Whiz.

Saturday rolls on with no shortage of worthy Gurpology. If you’re a boss, a whiskey fanatic, or just a papered-up alcoholic, we’ll be seeing you at the Whiskeys of the World Expo on the San Francisco Belle yacht down at Pier 3 on the Embarcadero in SF at 6 PM.

Bun B

After Gurp City sinks the Belle (or drinks it dry — whichever comes first), it’s over to the Mezzanine for Bun B and Devin The Dude, to kick it in a cloud o’ dank, pop collars and hold it down Houston-style for the rest of the night.

Tha Liks

If subterranean drunk rap is more your speed, don’t miss Tha Alkaholiks with Hiero’s A-Plus at Café Du Nord in SF. It’s a small venue, a great place to see a good show by one of LA’s best-ever rap crews…and if any group is an honorary Gurp City inductee, it’s Tha ‘Liks. Seriously, I was having a hard time between this show and the Bun B / Devin show, and I’m still trying to figure out a way to hit both…but after Whiskeys of the World…well, there’s just no calling it.

If you got a mullet and you love to piss and moan about how rock has pretty much sucked since 1989, hit the Warfiled in SF for Y&T (you fag). Better yet, jump in yer Bitchin’ Camaro and haul yer ass up to Tahoe for motherfucking Queensryche at Harrahs, and scream howling staccato like your nuts are in fucking vice.

Von Iva

Rather watch hot chicks bang out hot rock? No problem — SF’s Von Iva are playing at the Uptown Lounge in Oakland, and these ladies always put on a great show.

If you’re in Chico for the weekend, hit Nick’s for The Sleaze Tax, featuring bearded Gurp rock icon The Woot (that’s him on the left, with yours truly in Austin last summer), and indie stalwart Barbara Manning.

That’s all for this weekend, Gurpos. If you know of something else going on, hit it up in the comments. Otherwise I’ll be seeing y’all out on the track…and I’ll probably be seeing double, too.
