It's like Vegas fool. San Francisco and the Bay Area rappers, producers and DJs all get together for one good cause, to get drunk as fuck and make good music. The Gurp Fam keeps growing and innovating rap music with artists like Trunk Drank, Z-Man, Fist Fam, Grand Invincible, Fay Dog, G-Pek, Eddie K, DJ Marz, Bullet Proof Space Travelers, Bullet Proof Scratch Hampsters, DJ Cue, Brandon B, Luke Sick, Iron Fist, Thuggy Fresh, 6 Feet Deep, DJ Mathew Africa, 4oneFunk, DJ Teeko, DJ Max Kane, DJ Mista-B, DJ B. Brycon just blessed us with a brand new 10 minute instrumental suite using records from a recent dig in Quito, Ecuador. His talents as a producer are very underrated but the upcoming Grand Killa Con album will change all of that no doubt.
Dregs One has a new project out entitled the STYLE tape to hold us over until his Mood Swings e.p. is ready. Check out the first leak below and order a hard copy for only $1. Don’t be a cheap bastard get one for your plug and favorite bartender as well. http://dregs1.bandcamp.com/album/the-style-tape
This is a classic GAMETIGHTELECTRO song from the vaults that was originally for the Paranormal Bar Stars album on Female Fun that was unable to be released. It popped up on a couple other releases as well:
After dropping three full lengths in a years time Sick Steen is back with The Altered Beast Mixtape. Collecting some of his favorite joints from those projects and more into a cohesive listening experience.
I was gonna write something up but Foul Mouth Jerk has a true gift with words:
“You know what seems to be happening a lot in recent years? Super Groups. Conversely you know what seems to be lost to the annals of history? Rapper/Producer albums. Not the Kanye West “a producer that raps” type, I mean one consistent, cohesive musical vision throughout an entire album done by 1 MC and his DJ/Producer or production team. Up until about 1993 it’s pretty much how all rap albums were made, these days not so much. Well you know who’s combining these two seemingly dynamically opposed concepts? No, you probably don’t because you don’t stay up on ill shit the way I do. But the answer is Grand Killa Con, a joint effort from Gurp City All Star Luke Sick, the lyricist behind projects like Sacred Hoop & Grand Invincible, and Brycon, a producer whose worked with everyone from Action Bronson to Living Legends to Masta Ace.
As a super group I’m gonna go ahead & rate them firmly right between The Hot Boys & The Traveling Wilburys. As a rapper/producer combo, I would put them somewhere in the neighborhood of a Marley Marl & Kane. Their first leak ”Hemmed pt.1″ is the beginning of their run up to this summer’s release of their full-length “Year of the Tre Bag” and is accompanied by a video that’s as grimy as the album title suggests.”
