Being recognized for your drunken antics has proved to be counter productive for some, however not for the homies in Strange Face. The SF Weekly has just given respect where its due by naming the rowdy bunch of kids The Best Drunken Rap Group in San Francisco.

Bay Area hip-hop artists are either pill-poppin’ purveyors of the hyphy high life, or knit-cap wearing pseudo-intellectuals who spout the obligatory “Fuck Bush!” in order to rouse the slightest bit of crowd response. San Francisco’s Strange Face collective is neither. Instead, they spit raw raps, guzzle jugs of Carlo Rossi, and write odes to their muse: booze. Their singlemindedness is best illustrated by albums such as Conceit’s “Wasted Talent” and TopR’s “Cheap Laughs for Dead Comedians.” Strange Face earns respect from local hip-hop heads for “gettin’ gurped” and drinking 40s outside of clubs with fans and still rocking a mike better than most do sober. The network of emcees, DJs, producers and artists includes founder Conceit, Wordsmith, Rush, Optik, BOAC, and turntablists 4OneFunk. You can find them any given weekend performing at bars and clubs, or buying cheap booze at your local liquor store.
Much props to the boys, good to know all that hard work has finally paid off. So now in order to celebrate this monumental occasion Boac has sent me an exclusive rough mix from the upcoming Million Bucks collabo between him and Conceit aka the “Deonte Bradley” of rap (yeah Conceit I went there). Peep out “Kick Snare” up top and post your thoughts in the comments. Don’t hesitate to send it out to all your friends, enemies and the down low hoes your girl doesn’t know about on Myspace. And for those of you who like to post Myspace bulletins get some extra code here.
